Sandy Newman acts as general manager and keeps the business running. As the wife of Chef John, Sandy has been involved in the restaurant business for many years. She holds a journalism degree from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

Assisting John in the kitchen is Sous Chef Dru Shaffer, a 21 year old very gifted inspiring Executive Chef. Dru is from Washington State and was introduced to John when his mom brought him to the United Way of Clatsop County’s Iron Chef Goes Coastal Event in November 2017 after showing interest in the Culinary Field. He took culinary classes at Aberdeen High School and after graduation in 2018 came to work at Newmans starting as a dishwasher and showing great potential. He is now running the line the majority of the nights. Dru has an excellent palate, a great eye for detail and a desire to try new dishes and learn. We are excited to see him grow and succeed at Newmans and in the Culinary World in general.

Also working in the kitchen are Elise Arnold and Nicole Flatau, both graduates of Cannon Beach Christian Culinary Academy.

Serving you out front since we opened in 2006 is Wyndy Stephensen. Deidre VanDerMerve from South Africa joined us in 2007. In 2014 we added OSU graduate Erin Dorsey. Our most recent server Brady Girt studied farming and ecology in college in 2019 and also runs the nonprofit organization WildCommons.

Keeping things on track and assisting the servers are our hosts: Connor Forester and Peyton Sims.

We also employ many part time and seasonal employees such as Charlotte Blakesley, returning each summer since 2015. Together, we all work to make TeamNewman the very best that it can be!
